The Saint Louis Watercolor Society
presents
"The Brush and Beyond" Experimental Workshop
Mary Ann Beckwith NWS
Workshop dates: October 21-23, 2005

The “Brush and Beyond” Workshop will explore creative methods of paint application, including texturing and building layers of paint. New techniques and materials will allow for more expression and vision through your paintings. The methods taught and materials used will be suitable for both representational and abstract imagery. Demonstrations and discussions will focus on composition and design, how to recharge your work, sources of inspiration and the business of being an artist. Each day will include plenty of time to paint plus optional critiques.

The heart of the workshop will be to develop a strong sense of style in watermedia and mixed media while emphasizing the creative approach to making images. New tools will be made from commonly found items. Through exposure to the various new materials and techniques, each workshop attendee will find themselves better expressing their individuality in their work.

Finally, throughout the workshop the business of being an artist, including setting goals and priorities will be discussed. Each participant will discover how to become “inspired” and how to network as an artist. Each day's schedule will allow for lots of painting time. This workshop promises to be lively, energetic and best of all, fun filled!
